13 ANNUAL REPORT EKT
The action plan for 2014-2015
is significant for
several reasons: it marks the end of the programming period 2007-
2013 and the beginning of the 2014 -2020 period; it is in the middle of
the ‘Europe’ 2020 period and, finally, it is the beginning of the national
plan 2014-2020 for Greece. Understandably, careful programming for our
activities this year is crucial, not only because of the aforementioned,
but also because of the need the country has to rekindle its economy
in a way that will benefit as many areas as possible, especially in the
creation of new jobs and in keeping the brightest and the smartest from
leaving Greece. The real economic benefit of ‘knowledge’ is what national
and European policies are aiming at and, as such, has a direct influence
on our strategic priorities at EKT.
Main characteristics
By coordinating our three core strategic axis, we aim to encourage organisations and
businesses which conduct research to be innovative, so as to make a meaningful
contribution to balanced and sustainable development.
Access to reliable sources of knowledge, the metrics based on the functioning,
development and innovation of national and international research ecosystems, have
become central to European development policies. In such a climate, strengthening
the socio-economic impact of research along with its transfer and competent use
has become the central strategy for sustainable and inclusive development. The
development of knowledge capital and the integration of Greek businesses into
value chains is the only way to increase competitiveness without the continuous
reduction of salaries.
Our role in this knowledge ecosystem is to provide the electronic infrastructure,
tools, sources and services so that organisations doing research as well as innovative
businesses can be included in an international value chain, produce, guarantee and
use their knowledge capital.
Having carried out this role for a length of time now, we have a consistent strategy,
which is based on three core principles:
a)
Qualitative and quantitative improvement of reliable e content, with emphasis on
its availability for reuse through different various value chains
b)
Production of trustworthy indicators for research, technology, development and
innovation and evidence-based policy making
c)
Knowledge transfer and exploitation, reinforcing of innovation for a balanced,
sustainable and inclusive development, with the emphasis on outward-looking
approaches and the production of reliable information in innovative businesses.
