in the Socio-economic Sciences & the Humanities:
Greece’s participation [2007-2012]

The programme ‘Socio-economic Sciences and the Humanities’, SSH, is a priority for European
research in order to face today’s social challenges. Such challenges include: development,
employment and competitiveness in the Knowledge Society, the combination of economic, social
and environmental goals with a European perspective, important social trends and their effects,
Europe’s global position, European Commission policies as well as Socio-economic and scientific
indicators.

The report summarises the results of the programme REGPOT 2007-2012 which, as part of
the 7th Framework Programme, aimed, for the first time, to document the extent of regional
involvement in innovation in order, on the one hand, to stress the competitiveness and
productivityof theregionswhicharenotnearcentresof researchandindustrialdevelopment inEurope,
and on the other, to foster balanced development throughout Europe.
