The first day of the conference focused on domestic policies and examples of the use of open data. It
was clear from the presentations and examples given that, in Greece as well as abroad, the political
will exists to make evidence-based policies. To achieve this, every type of public open data- scientific,
research, geo-spatial, economic and cultural -is essential in creating a knowledge-based economy
and an intelligent country capable of participating on a larger scale.
Various key applications and uses of open data, many of which had been carried out during the
previous twelve months, were presented. On an institutional level, these included crowdsourcing
for the creation of open online services for the General Secretariat of Information Systems, the
activities of the GFOSS in the area of open legal data as well as publicspending.net which records
the exploitation of tax revenue on an international level.
