3.2. The Greek Projects
3.2.1. FP7-HEALTH calls
Among the 113 FP7-HEALTH projects with Greek participation:
89 were Collaborative Projects (with 112 Greek participants),
21 Coordination and Support Actions including 2 ERANETs (with 24 Greek participants) and
3 Networks of Excellence (with 3 Greek participants).
Among the 11 FP7-HEALTH projects coordinated by Greek organisations, 7 projects were
coordinated by research organisations & 4 projects were coordinated by academia. The average
number of participants per FP7-HEALTH projects with Greek coordinators was 11 (identical to the
overall number of participants per FP7-HEALTH project). However, the average number of
participants per FP7-HEALTH projects with Greek participation was 17.
In terms of activity areas, 14 projects with 18 Greek participants (8,47 Mio Euros) were funded
under Activity 1 “Optimizing the delivery of health care to European citizens”; 65 projects with 78
Greek participants belong to Activity 2 “Translating research for human health” (27,37 Mio Euros,
59% of FP7-HEALTH funding for Greece); 16 projects with 23 Greek participants (6,94 Mio Euros)
were funded under Activity 3 “Biotechnology, generic tools and technologies for human health”; 17
projects with 19 Greek participants (2,61 Mio Euros) belong to Activity 4 “Other actions across the
HEALTH theme”; and 1 project with 1 Greek participant (0,76 Mio Euros) addressed one of the
“Horizontal topics for collaborative projects relevant for the whole of theme HEALTH”.
The coordinator success rate for Greece is 7,8% which is half of the average coordinator success
rate for all countries (16,9%) and occupies 18th position out of the 24 MS & AC countries with
coordinators in FP7-HEALTH calls. Iceland displays the highest coordinator success rate with
33,3% followed by Ireland (26,1%), The Netherlands (24,1%), France (24%) and Austria (21,9%).
The top 10 organisations coordinating projects are: Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche
Medicale (France), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), University College London (UK), Erasmus
Universitair Medisch Centrum Rotterdam (The Netherlands - NL), Radboud University Medical
Centre (NL), Academisch Ziekenhuis Leiden–Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (NL), King’s
College London (UK), The Chancellor, Masters & Scholars of the University of Oxford (UK),
University Medical Centre Utrecht (NL), The Chancellor, Masters & Scholars of the University of
Cambridge (UK).
The share of coordinator participations in FP7-HEALTH projects across all countries averages is
at 7% and Greece’s share (6,7%) is close to this average. Greece is in 13th position out of the 24
MS & AC countries with coordinators in FP7-HEALTH calls. First place is occupied by Ireland
(18%), followed by The Netherlands (14%), Austria (12%), Sweden (11%) and Norway (11%).
