Metrics & Evidence-based Policies
In order to support the shaping and documentation of evidence-based policies, we focus on the collection
of both primary and secondary data for research, development and innovation in Greece. We then produce
official statistics and other international standard indicators with relevant interpretations of them, so as to
render them usable by policy makers and the broader Research, Technology, Development and Innovation
ecosystem of the country. For this purpose, we systematically publish scientific bibliometric studies of
research activities in Greece, in accordance with international standards. Since 2012, we have been officially
recording and exporting national statistics for research, development and innovation from all sectors of the
economy. To do this, we collaborate with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, the Hellenic
Statistical Authority and, on an international level, Eurostat and the OECD, which contributes to the reliability
of our national statistical indicators.
Our activities in the above areas contribute greatly to the formation and expansion of the science of science
and innovation policy, creativity and innovation; all of particular significance for the country in the current
climate.

e-Content
Our two main goals are, firstly, to cover the need for information, content and data within the scientific,
research and cultural communities of the country and, secondly, on an international level, to make
reliable Greek content available and accessible in an organised and systematic way. To make this
possible, e-infrastructure has been developed to effectively collect and compile content and data,
safeguarding access for all users no matter from where or when and ensuring long term preservation
of the content. The development of this e-infrastructure has led to our new services, OpenABEKT and
SaaS Repositories based on the model of Software as a Service.
These new services enrich the already existing services which we have successfully provided users
with. Good examples are the National Archive for PhD Theses and the National Union Catalogue of
Scientific Serials of the Greek Scientific and Technological Libraries.
